Today’s blog post is written by Lindsey, one of our case managers. Lindsey talks about one of the steps of the egg donation process – medical clearance.
Medical clearance is the first step in the donation process after you have been formally matched with a family. This is typically an 8-week process from start to finish. During this time, you will have to complete a tele-health psychological evaluation, tele-health family medical history risk assessment, and attend a one day in office appointment at the clinic you will have your egg retrieval at. This appointment is typically 2-2.5 hours long and is the most important step so it is best to schedule this appointment as soon as you can.
At this appointment you will meet the doctor and the nursing staff, have your blood drawn, complete a genetic carrier screening kit, and complete a trans-vaginal ultrasound. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any and all questions you have regarding the donation. Once all reports, bloodwork, and genetic results are in and approved, the clinic will issue formal medical clearance and give the go ahead to proceed with the legal portion on this process.
Depending on the location of the clinic, you will either fly in the night before and stay in a hotel; if you are close enough, you will fly in the same day and fly home after the appointment is complete. We will book your flights and hotel for you around your schedule.
While you are traveling you will receive a $69.00 per diem per day to help all food/drinks, and you will also be reimbursed for all ride shares that you took to and from the airport, clinic, and hotel during your stay.
