When intended families meet with us, they often ask about IVF clinics – what clinic they should choose, what clinic options are out there, if it even matters what clinic they choose. While the clinic is not the only part of the egg donation journey nor is it the sole determinate of success, it is one of the most important aspects of your journey.

Why is the clinic important?

The clinic is in charge of everything medical; so all IVF medications for the donor, dosages, determining trigger date & retrieval date, analysis of ultrasounds & bloodwork, care and monitoring of the donor, are all done by the clinic. The clinic is in charge of educating the donor on how to administer her injections, how to take care of herself after retrieval, and even in determining if the donor you choose is a good fit for you.

We as the agency are not medical professionals – we follow the advice of the clinic and let them interpret results from the donor’s doctor’s appointments and screenings. At the end of the day, if the donor is not responding well to the medication, your doctor at the clinic is the one who makes the call if the donor should continue with the retrieval or not, not us.

So what does that mean when picking a clinic?

One of the biggest things to remember when choosing an IVF clinic, is that not all clinics are created equal. Clinics, like many aspects of this process, vary in quality. It is important to do thorough research before picking your clinic, to make sure it is a good fit for you.

The clinic you choose can affect your timeline, as well as your ability to get pregnant. We always say that the most important thing is to have trust and confidence in your doctor and in your clinic. This is an emotional and exciting time, and trust in your IVF team is essential in making everything go smoothly.
