Today we’re covering how many times egg donors can donate and why!
According to guidelines from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, egg donors can donate up to six times.
The limit of six times is to protect the donor’s health, and minimize risk of complications such as Ovarion Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). The limit of six times also limits the potential for consanguinity (having many people out there who are genetically related).
Typically after your first cycle, the IVF clinic will review the results and determine if another cycle is appropriate. If it is, donors usually take two months off and then can proceed with another donation.
Having worked in egg donation for a long time, we’ve seen donors that just donate once, while others donate all six times. The decision is entirely up to you!
